The course describes the basic technologies for the production of biofuels and bioproducts, with the main axis of reducing the carbon footprint and with emphasis on the circular economy. The course focuses on the new proposed European framework for the circular economy and the proposed strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Thermal processes are analyzed and compared with non-thermal processes for their energy efficiency and the conversion efficiency of biomass and biowaste into biofuels and bioproducts. Finally, the role of catalysis is examined as a tool for energy optimization but also as a means of focused production of biofuels and bioproducts of high value and utility.

* Emphasis on hydrogen (common practices and production technologies)

* Biomethane, methanation, power-to-gas and LNG

* High-pressure / supercritical processes (HTC, HTL, Fischer-Tropsch)

* Solid biofuels, biomass and waste-to-energy

* Equilibrium modelling of thermochemical processes

* Exergy analysis, energy efficiency of bioenergy systems
