The Centre for Environmental Policy & Strategic Environmental Management was established in 2002. The research undertaken by the Lab’s personnel  focuses on applied environmental policy & sociology and on the green management of industries and organizations.

JustReDi: : Towards a just green and digital transition of Greek regions” (2024-2025)

The project  “Resilience, inclusiveness and development: Towards a just green and digital transition of Greek regions” (JustReDI) was implemented within the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan Greece 2.0 with funding from the European Union – NextGenerationEU. TITLE: Development of a Standardized Circular Economy Model: The Case of Milos Island

STATUS: Completed

DURATION: August 2021 – March 2022

OBJECTIVE: The Centre for Environmental Policy and Corporate Environmental Management, Department of Environment, University of the Aegean participated in the development of the research project entitled: “Development of a Circular Economy model: The Case of Milos” funded by the General Secretariat of Aegean Island Policy of the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy. The research objective was initially the recording and evaluation of the existing productive activities of Milos, the energy flows and the production flows of products, waste and the assessment of their impacts, since in Milos, as in all island regions, there is an improper management of waste mainly from mining, hotel, construction and agricultural activities. Then followed the distribution of a questionnaire and the holding of numerous meetings and interviews with the bodies of productive activities and citizens of the island to record the knowledge, opinions, attitudes and perceptions of the island’s citizens regarding waste management issues and Circular Economy. All the above research was used in the establishment of a pilot platform for the development and implementation of Circular Economy and Sustainable Development practices.

TITLE: “Exploitation and Promotion of Natural Wealth through the Use of Digital Applications: The Case of Molyvos and Petra in the Municipality of West Lesvos”

STATUS: Completed

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the project is to create a digital mobile application that integrates cartographic material, incorporating new information data for the area of Molyvos and Petra (Municipality of West Lesvos). Hiking on Lesvos – “The Other Aegean Trails” is a digital guide for hiking and exploring the natural and cultural environment of the wider area of Molyvos and Petra, which incorporates information and features for the hiking trails. Each route has a detailed description, photos as well as detailed texts about the study area. The digital application is an action of the Molyvos Tourism Organization (Main Beneficiary) in cooperation with the University of the Aegean / Department of Environment (research team of the Centre of Environmental Policy and Corporate Environmental Management) and was implemented in the framework of the project “Exploitation and Promotion of Natural Wealth through the Use of Digital Applications: The Case of Molyvos and Petra of the Municipality of West Lesvos”. This project was funded by the Green Fund under the programme “NATURAL ENVIRONMENT & INNOVATIVE ACTIONS 2020”.
